Chapter 8

Lucy Wilcox says “you may be listening, but you are not hearing.” What is the difference between “listening” and “hearing” here? Can you think of another saying in this chapter that means something similar?

Have you ever made a decision that disappointed your family or friends? Do you think you did the right thing, even though you disappointed them?

The difference between listening and hearing is if you are listening you are taking in what they said but if your just listenening then the stuff they say is "going through one ear and out the other"

I dont remember any bad descisions that disappointed everybody.

Well, there kind of is a difference, because if you hear it, you might just sort of block it out, and forget every word they said. But if you hear it, you usually remember what he/she said.

I did something that sort of disapointed my family and friends, it was; I was invited to go to a basketball try out for a NB summer team this year, but I didn't go because I was nervous, because i thought a lot of the girls there would be really good, and make me look like I suck real bad, but it was a huge mistake. A couple of my friends we're real mad at me, well they weren't really mad, mad. But they told me that I really should of went because they think I am real good. (Ethen & Tyler)

My parents we're really disapointed in me because it is a really awesome opportunity to get picked for this.. Also my brother was disapointed in me... Because the Coach of the team for NB has a daughter on UNB team and it would have been a good chance for me to be noticed now for when I get older.

I think some of you "listen" without "hearing" in class sometimes. :P

Some friends of mine really wanted me to go see a movie with them once. However, my brother was sad and I thought I should spend some time with him. My friends were very disappointed with me, but I know that I did the right thing.

The difference between hearing and listeng here is that by listening she means that her words are going is one ear and out the other. By hearing she means actually thinking about what she is saying. I can't really think of another saying in this chapter that maens the same thing.

I can't think of a time when I disappointed my family and friends by a decision that I made.
